Hi
I have had a lot of time of work and have now been asked to attend a meeting re Absence Management. Has anyone had one of these and does the next step mean dismissal?
They have not mentioned any of my disability sick leave in my absences that they have listed. Is this normal.
Many thanks.
G

if its to do with your disabling condition listed under the disability discrimination act (which rheumtoid arthritis is) you are entitled to time off for appointments etc to do with the condition. you need specific advice on this.

are you in a union?

Hi Gillian,

I too had a bit of time off work and returned in Sept 2010. They hit me with a Sickness Meeting that was being referred to the Head of Service for his opinion on my sickness absence, this was when Id not even finished my phased return or had adaptions done.

You need to get Access to work in to do an assessment, you are covered by the DDA and Equality act and before they decide to do anything they need to show that they have tried alternatives in order for you to carry on doing your job.

Keep us updated hun,

Thinking of you Michelle x.x.

Hi Gillian,
Has your work got an Absence Managment Policy? If so, get a copy, get to know it intimately, make sure they follow it , take somebody with you preferably a union rep, make detailed notes and don't take any nonsense! If they don't bend over backwards to help you stay in work you'll have a good chance of winning a tribunal if it goes to dismissal.
Good luck

Hello G, when I had the meeting with my management I read about it and discovered that these meetings cover both sides and this is your chance to explain what is happening to you and give your employers the chance to help YOU. Try not to think of it as an attack on you and turn it to your advantage. It worked well for me at that time. Jenni, do you have to be registered disabled befor you can take advantage of the disability discrimination act ? It's just that I am no longer allowed pay now when I attend my appointments, I can have the time off ok though, it's the cut backs and money saving, I can only get morning appointments though and I've always tried to time my appointments during holidays but it's not allways possible. This is all really interesting. The company I work for is very disapproving of sickness and once you hit 3 episodes you go to disciplinary. I was diagnosed after I had been in this new job 2 months and I have just been signed off for a week as my pain is so severe. I am still in my probation period, so does this mean they wont necessarily take my RA into account if I was to go to disciplinary. I am hoping not to have further time off sick, because I love this job and would hate to lose it because of RA!!!
